Mayor Hickenlooper will run for governor
Source: 9NEWS

KUSA - Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper will be a Democrat candidate for governor. Sources tell 9NEWS the Mayor's decision comes after pleas from President Barack Obama, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and other prominent Colorado Democrats to take the spot vacated when Gov. Bill Ritter (D-Colorado) announced last week he would not run for re-election this fall.

The former geologist-turned brewpub owner had never run for office before being elected Mayor of Denver in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. He has advocated for economic development, sustainability, increased transit, and the arts since taking over at City Hall.

Ritter took Colorado's Democrats by surprise when he said he would not be a candidate and that he needed to focus more on his family. Immediately, focus turned to Salazar, Hickenlooper and Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Colorado). Just a day after Ritter's announcement, Salazar said he would not run and endorsed Hickenlooper. Perlmutter later did the same thing.

2. I hope he wins (and I hope we have someone decent for mayor)
Denver needs some continuing strong progressive leadership, right now, given the economic downturns.

3. I want Andrew Romanoff to run for mayor.
And drop his poor campaign for the Senate and let Michael Bennet run in the primary unopposed.

6. Actually Andrew's campaign is picking up steam
Just because the polls are saying "poorly" - doesn't mean we're still working our asses off for Romanoff, my former state rep, a wonderful Speaker of the House.

Bennet is a carpetbagger - Andrew is not.

Andrew was Colorado Democratic Party's choice to replace Salazar. Was overridden by Bill "Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish" Ritter.

8. I think that Romanoff's decision to enter the Senate race is hurting...

Democrat's chances of holding that seat.

Did you know that neither can receive national funding until after the primary in August? That is really going to hurt.

12. Jane Norton has no chance of winning the seat
I think it's safely Democratic.

Jane Norton is a teabagger.

5. Jane Norton will have to concede defeat at this point.
Virtually all of Denver loves Hick.

Now he just needs to work on the rest of Denver.

If Hick gets elected - he'll just move across the park to the Capitol. Heh.

Now who'll be Hick's replacement as a Denver mayor?
