GM to halt Hummer production
Source: Associated Press

General Motors Co. will halt Hummer production next week at its Louisiana plant until sale of the brand to a Chinese company is completed.

Hummer spokesman Nick Richards said Wednesday it was unclear whether jobs would be affected at the Shreveport plant, which also builds Chevrolet pickup trucks.

The plant is the only one making Hummers.

14. Those jobs were toast before today anyway
That plant is closing in 2012. It will not be part of the New GM.

They make four things there: H3 Hummers, Isuzu I280s, Chevy Colorados and GMC Canyons. The Hummer is going away and the Colorado/Canyon is a hard sell right now--whether it's all fuel mileage that's doing it, or that other manufacturers make a more-appealing vehicle (it's not just the imports; the Dodge Dakota and Ford Ranger are REALLY nice little trucks) I cannot say, but they're having a hell of a time moving inventory.

and yes, if you drive a hummer, most likely, people have laughed at you, knowing you will spend that much money, just to get noticed on a fucking street. Dumb!

6. Hatred of Hummer drivers runs deep
as evidenced by this website:

http://www.fuh2.com/

Probably well over 10,000 photos of people flipping off Hummers & their drivers.

7. I would really like an H1 Humvee... none of this silly H2 or H3 shite.
If I strike it rich, I'm going to have a Bradley style Hummer H1 and an 80's diesel Toyota Hilux.
Maybe a nice sedan and sportscar to round off the collection.

20. My husband really wants an H1 as well
The "new" Hummers with all their chrome, driven by people who would freak out at a rock chip on the paint job or a little mud disgust him.

That is, when I'm not off-roading it w/ bitchin' tunes in the background.

16. good...that "poseur" non-minitary Hummer was only
good for morning highway commute gridlock, rap videos, country club parking lots, magazine shoots for 26+-inch wheels, and soccer moms who damn sure HAD to show the neighborhood how well they were doing...

23. This was probably the greatest symbol
of American waste and excess of the last twenty years.

The military Humvee actually served a purpose. The Hummer (especially the H2 and so on) were just stupid status symbols.

26. Maybe the original. The other models are no worse than Nissan Pathfinders, or Toyota Highlanders.
Just a convenient name to latch on to, but these SUVs are no worse for the environment than the full size SUVs offered by virtually every auto manufacturer selling in the US. :hi:

28. The Cadillac Escalade.
Attracts a far lower class of quasi-rich swine than even an H2 with clearcoat paint. I contend that it is not possible to engage a forward gear in an Escalade without raising the cellphone to the talking position. It's pretty hard to prove me wrong!
