On KMTV news minutes ago: Eight protesters arrested at Offutt AFB
for crossing onto Federal Property during a peaceful war demonstration. The are called Midwestern Catholics for Peace I think. They were held for two hours and charges haven't been pressed yet. There were a number of demonstrators that got to their knees and prayed as the eight crossed the line between public and federal property.

I think that a movement is growing in this country, just like during Viet Nam. I think, hope, and pray that people are becoming more and more aware that bloodshed only leads to further bloodshed.

But you know, this is Omaha, Nebraska, land of the stereotypical staunch republican redneck types. I wonder what's going to happen to the eight that were arrested. Guess we'll find out.

1. Damn, Catholics for PEACE... That's going to give a lot of other
denominations a bad name. What are they thinking. Less war= Less money... Less money means fewer multi million dollar edifices for conspicuous consumption.

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?????

</sarcasm>

8 Protesters Detained At Offutt

POSTED: 7:17 pm CST March 14, 2004
OFFUTT AIR FORCE BASE -- Eight members of the Midwest Catholic Workers crossed through the security gate of Offutt Air Force Base Sunday and were detained.

It is an annual event at the base to protest nuclear weapons and war.

Frank Cordaro, a Des Moines Catholic Worker and a former priest, led the group, but did not trespass on the base grounds.

Cordaro says about 40 people gathered outside the base in Bellevue -- which is headquarters for the U.S. Strategic Command.

The eight who ventured onto base grounds were held for a short time before being given letters barring them from entering the base again.
