Giuliani to campaign for GOP in Mass. election

BOSTON - The campaign by the Republican seeking the late Edward Kennedy's Senate seat is bringing in some firepower to back up his tough talk about terrorists — Rudolph Giuliani.

Giuliani, who was mayor of New York City when terrorists struck on Sept. 11, 2001, plans to campaign for Scott Brown at an event in Boston on Friday.

Brown has been arguing for tough treatment of would-be terrorists. He says they should be designated enemy combatants and handled within the military tribunal system.

Coakley supports President Barack Obama's decision to close Guantanamo Bay and handle suspected terrorists within the civilian system, including in New York courtrooms.

I think this election will be eye opening on whether residents in a liberal state such as Massachusetts support trying suspected terrorists in the U.S. court system. My take is that Coakley should win so long as Democrats don't take such a victory for granted. However, if she loses, then expect Republicans to use this victory to assert a mandate to reject rule of law.

nearly progressive enough to support, but how much am I willing to take to vote against a Democrat who wants to support this corporate giveaway. I don't believe I could affirmatively choose a candidate with Rudy.911's recommendation. I guess I will just have to sit home. The Republicans are the only ones who can save the Democrats. I think Brown would have been much smarter in Massachusetts just to have campaigned on the failings of the bill.
