Chinese police cancel first gay pageant

The host of Mr Gay China, Michael Tsai, before the event was cancelled
Police today cancelled what would have been China’s first gay pageant just minutes before it was due to start.

The Mr Gay China pageant, featuring a fashion show and a host in drag, was set to take place in an nightclub in Beijing, but police arrived and halted the final preparations.

The forced closure comes even though a successful rehearsal had been held on Thursday night in the same location.

He said police told him he needed to apply for approval for events that included performances, in this case a stage show.

1. Why should citizens of any nation have to have a permit to gather
or put on a show? How do governments justify that? It's not like our taxes dont already pay for police etc.
I guess I just am sick and tired of taxpayers of any country having their pockets picked for every little thing under the sun.

4. Well we have the same thing going on here in Amreica...
We have to get permits to have a gathering...and pay the government for the right.
