10. The Richter scale is a logarithmic scale, not linear.
4.9 isn't that powerful.

11. 700 people injured for a 4.9 in southern iran last november. see what i mean?
cnn:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/11/04/iran.earthquake/index.html

i know 4.9 is not that powerful, but as you see inner territories of iran can be badly hit by even a 4.9.
so hopefully this time nobody was injured.

2. Is Earth telling us something?
Like, "Get the fuck off?"

The last several weeks have been quite seismically active

3. I , along with millions of Californians, live in an earthquake zone
and I'm concerned. Like waiting for the big one!!!!! We had a minor one about a week ago.

Those poor people in Haiti - the devastaion is beyond belief and now the violence has begun.

19. There's a reason that they aren't called "California-quakes"...
They can and do happen all over earth. At least here in California we have seismic building codes.

5. Current activity is well within the norms. There are about 50 measurable earthquakes a DAY.
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/year/eqstats.php

Frequency isn't the issue. Earthquakes are only a problem when they happen near population centers.

6. That's what I was speculating about on this thread
it seems an ice shelf the size of Rhode Island shattered quickly about the same time Haiti was experiencing it's earthquake.

12. This is standard siesmic activity.
Not even vaguely unusual; we're just more aware of the reports right now. Normally nobody pays attention.
