6.3 magnitude earthquake hits off Argentina coast

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An earthquake of 6.3 magnitude struck off the southern coast of Argentina on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was centered about 220 miles (354 km) southeast of Ushuaia, Argentina, at a depth of 13 miles (21 km), USGS said. It struck at 8 a.m. local time (1200 GMT).

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. No tsunami warnings were issued by the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center or the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

I really wonder if the shallowness of the epicenter has anything to do with it since it seems that those earthquakes affect small areas just above.

4. It's very weird...

we're getting clusters of them in Oklahoma. They're small...but people feel them nonetheless. My husband and I lived in southern California, so the ground's really got to shake for us to feel it.

effect another part. Some of this could have been set off by the recent Haiti earthquake.

It seems like to me that unexpected relatively large quakes have been moving towards us both from the East and the West in the past few years. We are in California and I am wondering if the San Andreas may finally have an excuse to let go. It seems like we have had an number of quakes of roughly magnitude 6 to the North, South, East and West of us in this hemisphere in the last few weeks.:scared:

They happen often. There are significant quakes in Alaska every week. Mostly, they are in remote thinly or non-populated places.

When one strikes a populated area, you get jounalists watching the USGS page, and a lot of reporting of fairly mundane events.
