Leak at German nuclear plant: firm
Source: afp

AFP - A leak in a uranium enrichment plant in Germany exposed an employee to a high level of radiation but posed no danger to people outside the facility, the firm operating the plant said on Friday.

The employee was taken to hospital as a precaution, a spokeswoman for the German subsidiary of British nuclear firm Urenco said.

None of the radiation escaped, the company added.

"There is no danger to the public. The necessary authorities were informed straight away," Urenco said in a statement.

1. This is news?
It's like saying, "someone dropped a solar cell in the GE chip foundry plant".

Oh, wait: the word "Satan Nuclear" is involved.

Never mind.

2. How often do they send an employee to the hospital over that?
Either because of radiation exposure or dropped solar cells (or a less-silly equivalent)?

It's news - not earth-shattering news, but not business as usual, either.

3. NOT NEWS?????
Is it because only ONE PERSON's life was endangered? How many people have to be harmed before it becomes news? Now, if that person were rich or famous then it would be news, right?

And of course you can trust a spokeswoman for the German subsidiary of British nuclear firm Urenco. Corporations wouldn't lie about endangering people now would they?

I lived near Three Mile Island when it had a melt down. The corporation and government kept telling us there was No Danger and nothing to worry about. But recent reports indicate that people in the vicinity of the melt down were exposed to excessive amounts of radiation. Cause you know you can trust a corporation.

4. Life is dangerous
People die in horrible ways at work all the time....

I am not downplaying the human cost in work related accidents, but I will not play the 'OH MY GOD NUCLEAR POWER IS EVIL' game because of one accident.

5. One That WE Know Of
and how many hidden or ignored? When there's profits at stake, in this New World Order, Corporation is now King.

7. People have gone to the hospital after leaks in solar manufacturing plants.
There's some nasty toxic chemicals used in those solar plants.

If you are the one sitting in the hospital because you were exposed to an industrial toxin it makes little difference if it's radioactive or not. Poison is poison, and some of the non-radioactive poisons are a hell of a lot worse and more damaging than the radioactive poisons.
