SD Senate Dumps Abortion Bill

South Dakota's abortion bill will not change after all. A bill that would have banned most abortions in the state died today in the Senate after earlier being approved by the house. The Senate voted 18-to-17 against suggested changes made by Governor Rounds.

He issued a style-or-form veto to make sure existing abortion regulations would have stayed in place during a court challenge. When the bill first passed the Legislature, the Senate approved it on an 18-to-15 vote. But after the veto, it failed by one vote in the Senate.

Earlier today, the House voted 52-to-16 to upheld the changes suggested by Rounds.

The bill would have allowed abortions only if a woman's life is in danger or she faces grave health risks.

Thank God. Some moron over on the Washington Dispatch boards was talking about this and about "what a good thing it would be." Ironically, she claimed to be carrying on the tradition of Susan B. Anthony.

According to the founders of "Susan B Anthony's List" she was opposed to legalized abortion. Many women on the right look up to her for that reason.
Don't know how well their claims can be supported or refuted with regards to Anthony's views on abortion.
