No democracy is perfect, Putin tells United States(Talks of Bush selection)
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=story_16-3-2004_pg4_1

MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday rebuffed US criticism of his landslide re-election, saying no democracy was perfect, not even America’s. Putin won a second Kremlin term on Sunday with over 70 percent of the vote, but only after US Secretary of State Colin Powell said it was “not good” that Putin’s rivals had been denied equal access to the media during the campaign.

“I think nobody has the right to think that if they criticise others, that they shouldn’t be criticised themselves,” Putin told a post-election news conference.

“We have a saying that some people, who see a speck of dust in the eye of another, don’t see the log in their own eye. “In many so-called developed democracies there are also many problems with their own democratic and voting procedures. And we, nearly four years ago, saw in amazement how the American system voting system suffered glitches.”

Putin was referring to the cliff hanger US presidential election in 2000, when George W Bush beat Al Gore only after a series of court rulings over the validity of punch-card ballots in the swing state of Florida. Putin vowed to defend democratic principles and a free media in his second term in power following his landslide re-election victory. “I promise that the democratic accomplishments of our people will be unconditionally defended and guaranteed,” Putin said in televised remarks from his campaign headquarters near the Kremlin.

6. Can't remember if it were Putin, but a Russian leader
in Greg Palest's book: The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, stated after the steel of 2000 that Russia does not want to model itself after the American's corrupt electoral system.

27. Re: "A Russian paraphrasing the bible to slam Uber-Christian Junior!?!?!"
I thought it was really funny because this is the same phrase Junior used in criticizing the Massachusetts SJC after it handed down the gay marriage decision.

10. This is good?
Slap happy in 2004

Truly amazing, This once great and massive so called Evil Empire is now making chide remarks about how * was installed. The lows keeping on getting lower. Thanks Puttin, and heavens knows it must be bad.

Even thinking the ex-chief of the KGB has more time in spend in thinking of how to tinker with democracy to make it better, than that of the selected one is really a slap.

20. The coolest thing Putin does, is throw crooked-ass billionaires in jail.
I was kinda hoping it would catch on over here! We need somebody protecting us from those predators. Irregardless of what Powell says, Putin seems to be well-liked by the Russian people.

22. log in their own eyes
BFEE has more than one log in their own eye, they have a whole forest of dead trees they can't see through. It really is pathetic for Colon Bowel and bu$h to criticize anyone on what a true democracy is. Democracy is being made the laughing stock of the world at the hands of these thugs in the US regime. Nobody believes anything the bu$h regime says anymore. They lie like they breath.

23. How funny is this...
People are already starting to distance themselves from Bush. When a Russian, A RUSSIAN!!! president makes a comment about you stealing the election, and in not so many words calls you corrupt, I can safely say you're pretty much done.

Edited on Tue Mar-16-04 01:26 AM by Layman
Why would a separatist leader from Georgia need to consult Moscow on how to deal with a American puppet in Tsblisi? These drugstore cowboys better watch or the U.S. is going to have their fingers burned again in another little war on the other side of the world.

25. Priceless. And Pootie smacked the moran on his foreign policies too...
“On the international arena, we will try to guarantee Russia’s national interest, but we will not in any way resort to aggressive measures, or enter into confrontations,” said Putin. “We will be flexible and seek partnership and compromises that are acceptable to us and our partners.
