GOP adopts platform test for candidates during Hawaii meeting
Source: Honolulu Advertiser

HONOLULU — The Republican National Committee has adopted a rule that requires GOP candidates to support the party's platform to obtain its financial support.

The resolution was enacted Friday by a voice vote at the party's winter meeting in Hawaii. It is an alternative to a more stringent proposal that would have required GOP candidates to support 10 specific policy positions if they wanted party help.

That proposal was sponsored by Indiana RNC member James Bopp. It was strongly opposed by party Chairman Michael Steele and a group of state party chairpersons.

The alternative does not contain a litmus test and grants party officials more flexibility in vetting GOP candidates seeking party support

1. Ewww! Just when they were recovering from Rush
the entire party is out there?!

I certainly hope The World Can't Wait and others are there to show them some very special island-style hospitality! :P

2. That headline is confusing. "No litmus test" and yet thay say "adopts platform test".

3. Simple. All it means is that they won't be dipping little pieces of paper into their candidates...

4. haven't had my cocktail yet--what is the difference between the platform and 10 policy positions?
(skipping the obvious bit about "10 positions")

6. The platform is much vaguer, and allows wiggle-room.
Here's the 2008 version:

Candidates can say they "support the platform", and wiggle a bit, as compared to having to commit to 10 more specific positions that are lock-step.

7. Well of course they need wiggle room, after all
it would be cruel to not allow a snake some movement even if its a venomous viper that could kill you if had it in an enclosed space and scared it with something like proposing healthcare for even the poor.
