NYTimes/CBS Poll: Bush 46%, Kerry 38%, Nader 7%
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/16/politics/campaign/16POLL.html?ex=1080018000&en=b27f9ba16f56e0a8&ei

-snip-

The Times/CBS News poll offered the latest evidence that the race for president was as tight as has long been predicted. Even after two weeks in which Mr. Bush has run televised advertisements promoting himself and attacking Mr. Kerry, and in which Mr. Kerry has enjoyed the glow of favorable coverage that greeted his near-sweep of Democratic primaries, the two men are effectively tied, with 46 percent of voters saying they supported Mr. Bush and 43 percent backing Mr. Kerry.

The candidacy of Ralph Nader looms as a potentially lethal threat to Democratic hopes of regaining the White House: With Mr. Nader in the race, Mr. Bush leads Mr. Kerry by 46 percent to 38 percent, with Mr. Nader drawing 7 percent of the votes. In a sign of the polarized electorate Mr. Bush and Mr. Kerry are facing, three-quarters of supporters of each candidate asserted they would not change their mind before the election.

1. Nader with 7%
As a Nader voter from 2000, I'm really surprised. Is there some kind of attempt here to get Nader into the debates, which he can with 15%? I'd be tempted to answer Nader if it meant that. Of course, I'll still vote Kerry, unless Nader could win, which he can't. But this is just shocking to me.

2. There's something fishy about the Nader stats.
Not one poll taker they quoted says a word about him. I don't watch network news, but I'm curious if anyone has seen anyone showing vocal support on the dumb-box.

I sure as hell haven't seen any Naderites in my real life.

3. UUUUUHHHH, yeah
Suuure...forget the fact that I (as a single entity) know of 5 Nader voters in 2000 - none of whom will vote for him again. Forget the fact that propaganda is the new form of 'reality politics'.....forget it all - nothing to see here - just move along to the next TV

That way you will think 'it was a close race' when * comes out ahead in the Diebold et al counties and states

6. Doesn't look like Nader is weakening bush's support much at all
Perhaps he should drop out of the race? Oh wait, he already knows that.

8. Oh please. I'm supposed to believe that Nader's entrance
Edited on Tue Mar-16-04 04:28 AM by Cat Atomic
into the race cost Kerry alot of votes, but cost Bush nothing? I've got to think a good chunk of Nader's support is going to be Republicans who won't support Bush, but refuse to vote for a Democrat.

This is only anecdotal evidence, of course- but I generally vote Green in local elections, and as such I'm familiar with alot of other Greens in this area. Every single one I've spoken with has said they're voting for Kerry in November.

Something in this poll smells like bullshit.

9. The corporate media decides
Democrats proved the corporate media decides as they ran from their preferred candidates as soon as the corporate controlled media started promoting Kerry, and now just as easily the corporate media can make this a close horse race with the bush team squeking by in the end and democrats will do nothing but whine. Democrats had their chance they had candidates that stood up and fought but refused to stand behind thier candidates and bought into whatever the corporate controlled media decided was best. It's still not too late, but as long as democrats allow the corporate controlled media to make all the decisions America is lost.

14. Agreed! This poll is w-a-y, W-A-Y off!
Maybe Viacom is depserately trying to curry favor with the WH after the Janet/Stern mess by rigging a poll in Shrub's favor.

That's the only excuse I can think of for this bogus poll.

11. The media want a horse race
and they will have one, even if they have to make one up.

The 7% for Nader is a dead give away that this poll is bogus. What did Nader get in 2000, about 3% of the vote. He'll be lucky to get 1% this time. Heck he isn't even going to be on the ballot in half the states this time. It makes you wonder what his agenda really is and who is backing his run?

12. will nader even get on half the ballots?
why is this poll so different than the others? Are these even likely voters? Good thing these polls are 100% meaningless at this stage.
