Venezuela's Supreme Court says president's opponents have enough signatures for recall
CARACAS, Venezuela -- Opponents of President Hugo Chavez celebrated a Supreme Court ruling that signatures on petitions seeking a presidential recall vote were valid unless citizens disclaim them.
Hundreds took the streets Monday in Venezuela's capital after the court ordered the National Elections Council to reverse its decision that over 870,000 citizens needed to confirm they signed the petition or it would fall short of signatures need to force the vote.
"I'm here to celebrate," said Altagracia Perez, a 27-year-old opposition supporter who joined the revelry, but warned that obstacles could be used by Chavez to derail a possible recall vote.
