WASHINGTON — Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., said Wednesday that he'll push to use unspent funding from last year's economic stimulus package to pay for part of a pending $100 billion jobs bill.
His comments during a conference call with reporters renewed his sparring with Gov. Dave Heineman, whom Republican leaders would like to see challenge Nelson in 2012.
The jobs bill includes extensions of unemployment benefits and higher Medicare payments to doctors, as well as additional Medicaid support for states and the continuation of various tax breaks for individuals and businesses.
Nelson said the unemployment extension qualifies as emergency help for Nebraskans struggling to find work in a down economy.
