In new book, McCain urges Americans to be brave
By Billy House, The Arizona Republic
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2004-03-17-mccain-book_x.htm?csp=15

WASHINGTON — Sen. John McCain, former prisoner of war, outspoken member of Congress and renowned tough guy, is about to become the nation's newest self-help guru.
We're all afraid of something, McCain writes in his third book, Why Courage Matters: The Way to a Braver Life, to be published in April.

We're also just as capable of being courageous, McCain says. He sets out to explain, with inspirational stories and advice, how Americans, including those still having difficulty confronting a post-9/11 world, can achieve bravery in their everyday lives.

"Hopefully, (readers) will find it an interesting read with an element of guidance associated with it," McCain says.

3. He makes a good point
I agree with John McCain about as often as I agree with the Idiot Bastard Son. But I respect John McCain. He fought for his country (which is mine, too), he spent half a decade in a brutal VC prison camp, and he articulates the philosophy of Conservatism, not the monstrosity of neo-Conservatism.

If Mr. McCain wants to lecture me on the cultivation of bravery, I'll be glad to listen to him. He's earned my respect -- Bush started out getting the benefit of too many doubts and lied his way into infamy.

4. i can't hate McCain either. he seems like he's got his heart in the right
place a lot of the time. sometimes i wonder about the power of a bipartisan presidency, with McCain as VP. but then i realize this would put Kerry in mortal danger from wacko rethugs.

5. And yet he continues to disappoint me when he caves to his own cowardice.
I like McCain, but his actions repeat someone who is unpredictable and willing turn against the easier target when necessary.

He should benefit in reading his own book and live the example he preaches. Hes too volatile to place trust in and caves with the flip of a coin back to the Republican bullies in my observance.

Hes lacks the courage and loyalty of someone like Governor Dean.

8. He has lost his moral courage.
Sad when that happens to a good man. He had the opportunity to join the forces of good, but he has become a cheerleader for the cabal. Too bad for him. He has lost this veteran's respect.

6. McCain said a couple of weeks ago that progress was being made in Iraq ...
because there were fewer U.S. Soldiers being killed ... of course, no mention of increasing Iraqi deaths or that the troops are being kept close to the bases due to the new rotation (not that it matter, 6 soldiers were killed after he said this.

The point ... McCain shills with the best of them

10. not to mention lifetime financial security.
the peace of mind it brings to be debt-free and never having to worry about being poor is a feeling that money can't buy...oops...I guess that would be a feeling that only money can buy.

9. John McCain is telling me to "Be Brave"?
The same McCain who let Karl Rove frighten/threaten him out of the '00 race for the ReTHUG nomination?

Sorry, John, I'd find more relevancy in a diet book by 260 Lb. Dr. Phil....
