Malvo sends letter of apology to Louisiana victim

NEW ORLEANS — A Louisiana man shot by Lee Boyd Malvo before the criminal spree that terrorized the Washington, D.C., area in 2002 has received a letter of apology from the convicted sniper.

John C. Gaeta, 58, of Albany, said Thursday that he's glad Malvo wrote him but remains skeptical about Malvo's intentions.

"I'm glad he wrote the letter," Gaeta said. "I do wonder, though, if he's truly sorry or if this is a part of him trying to get his sentence reduced. He knows that he should express remorse, so I question whether it is genuine and from the heart."

Gaeta was shot in the neck Aug. 1, 2002, outside a mall near Baton Rouge, La. He has said that two men approached him as he tried to change a tire. When he leaned down to pull out his spare, he noticed a shadow near the front of the truck.

I lived in Rockville (1st big day of shooting occurred here - 5 dead) during this time. His crimes had us all living in fear for 3 weeks.

I will concede that he was an impressionable young man with a sociopathic father figure and he likely IS sincerely remorseful. I am not sure if I really give a shit about him or his apologies. Maybe later...not now.

I worked in Rockville lived in Germantown and my sis lives about 3 miles from the Manassas shooting. Hard for me to really believe this. I'd like to believe he's sorry but....

we always hear about people making apologies, but we never seem to hear about people saying, "No, the apology is rejected".

So Malvo has now tried to apologise to one of his victims. What about the families of the other ~15 dead?

8. "he knows he should express remorese...." Not according to Romney's book "No Apologies."

Apparently, if you are responsible for 1 death, expressing remorse is a good thing. If you are responsible for hundreds or thousands of deaths, though, expressing remorse is a bad thing.

It's hard to keep up with the rules sometimes.
