N. Korea: Disarming Will Lead to Invasion
.
.
.

By SANG-HUN CHOE, Associated Press Writer

SEOUL, South Korea - North Korea (news - web sites) said Thursday that inspections and the dismantling of its nuclear weapons programs would only pave the way for a U.S. invasion, as proven by the U.S.-led war in Iraq (news - web sites).

/snip/

"What has happened in Iraq shows that if we agree to disarmament through unjustified inspections, it will not prevent a war but actually invite one," said KCNA, North Korea's official news agency.

/snip/

North Korea said it would allow inspections and dismantle its nuclear programs only if the United States provides economic aid and written guarantees that U.S. forces won't not invade.

Can't say I blame them

1. Yes, this is fucked up.
People were wondering why we should follow international law when people like me were advocating letting the inspections happen and what not...uh, well, it's supposed to prevent this sort of mistrust of our actions, for one thing. Now we've got this shit, more nuclear proliferation, to deal with. And remember the second, revisionist reason they gave for the war - that we should take out evil dictators like Saddam Hussein who are oppressing their people? Well, now it's that much harder to remove Kim Jung-Il from power...the North Korean people have to live under this stalemate for however long.

3. Agreed, nuclear proliferation is the only path to world peace and safety.
And nuclear power in every country, no matter how small.

7. hmm

This would be the perfect solution for sane minds...
Nobody would attack each other because they see they'll be annihilated themselves...

But what about those lunatics who WANT to die for their cause anyway? Or just to take you with them...?

Basically i still agree with you.. there might have been (more) wars between US and Sovjets hadn't both been deterred... (like this there was only hidden wars between small sponsored states)

8. Answer: the country with oil
You're absolutely correct.

North Korea's ability to retailate deterred the U.S. from attacking it.

It a lesson that promotes proliferation.

9. Now what would give the N. Koreans the idea that they need nukes?
Are they crazy or something? Do they think that the USA just goes around invading countries based on lies or something? Jeesh. Where would they get an idea like that any way? Don't these N. Koreans know that if the USA does invade them it will be for their own damn good and should throw flowers and get up and dance on the roof tops?

Don
