Iraqi killed, nine US soldiers wounded after Fallujah attack
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20040318/wl_mideast_afp/iraq_us_attack_fallujah&cid=1514&ncid=1480

<snip>FALLUJAH, Iraq (AFP) - One Iraqi was killed, and another three were wounded, along with nine US soldiers, in an attack on the mayor's office in this flashpoint city, police and US military revealed.

Gunmen opened fire at the building as municipal council members were meeting with US forces and exchanges of fire broke out, the police said Thursday.

Police and hospital sources told AFP Omar Okaili, 18, was killed and that Waddah Jawad, 40, Aref Hadi, 60, and Rashid Hamid, 65, were hurt.

US Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt, deputy operations chief for the US-led coalition in Iraq (news - web sites), confirmed in a press conference in Baghdad that "we had an incident in Fallujah where we had a military force that was working in one of the provincial buildings."

4. Well, at least the report said "wounded" instead of "injured"
"Injured" is when you stub your toe on the coffee table, or scald your thumb making tea. For a sucking chest wound, a chunk of shrapnel, a thumb blown off by an AK47, I think "wounded" is definitely more accurate.

Given the flatlining status of the press, that's about all the progress you can hope for these days.

6. One of those 9 wounded is probably fatal.
If you don't hear of any fatal casualities stemming from this attack, then you know they are playing games with the number of combat deaths.
