S.Africa police teargas mob blocking Mbeki tour
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 11:31 AM by seemslikeadream
JOHANNESBURG, March 18 (Reuters) - South African police fired teargas on Thursday to disperse a rowdy opposition crowd trying to prevent President Thabo Mbeki from campaigning in a village in the Zulu heartland, police said.

About 200 chanting Zulus tried to block the way just before Mbeki's car convoy arrived in Mafunze near Pietermaritzburg on a campaign swing ahead of elections next month.

1. I've been thinking lately, SA hasn't been helping the US much. Isn't it
time for some, um, 'opposition' activity down there?

2. The Zulu have been the Opposition to the ANC for decades.
They were shat on by Mandela and the ANC party because they are capitalists. Disney still sends them royalties for old "jungle" movie footage. Their president Buthelezi is more business oriented than Reagan and the Zulu's did pretty well during the separate-but-unequal apartheid years. The ANC has been paying them back since taking over.

3. Zulus voted for ANC as much as for Inkatha.

40% Inkatha
39% ANC

ANC and its allies in the alliance serve the whole country, not just one "tribe." Zulus, like all other Black people, suffered under fascist apartheid. Only the privileged white minority "did pretty well" under the fascist National Party regime.

4. Inkatha was a tool of the west, and the Zulus opposing ANC
probably are too.
