Accident kills soldier from Seattle in Iraq

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

A 24-year-old soldier from Seattle was killed in Iraq on Tuesday when a weapon mounted on his tank accidentally swung around and hit him.

First Lt. Michael R. Adams was assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment from Fort Carson, Colo., which had been in the area about a year and was soon to leave, said Douglas Rule, a Fort Carson spokesman.

The unit was employed mainly in police work and rebuilding schools, water and electrical systems in northwest Iraq.

The accident occurred when a passing vehicle hit Adams' tank and knocked the barrel of a machine gun-sized weapon into the soldier, who was standing in the turret. Adams' unit has sustained 44 casualties in Iraq, more than any other from Fort Carson, Rule said.

From the Seattle P-I.

More strange fruit of democracy brought to you by the putrescent poltroon and his neo-fascist allies.

3. "swung around and hit him."
As in swung around and shot him or swung around and smacked him in the head? Either way, I bet it was during combat.

Reminds me of the troops who were killed in the Humvee "accident." Turns out they were fleeing enemy fire when they crashed. It was still ruled as an accident.

2. I was talking to one of my coworkers yesterday who's brother is in Iraq.
She is very liberal and we were discussing the war. I told her I don't know how she stands it. I am so angry and sad about what is happening there and I don't have a love one in harms way.
I cannot even imagine how those of you with family and close friends over there feel every time you hear or read of another death.
My prayers are with you all.
