Jobs Bill Passes in Senate With 11 Votes From Republicans

WASHINGTON — The Senate approved and
The measure, approved on a bipartisan vote of 68 to 29, would give employers an exemption from payroll taxes through the end of 2010 on workers they hire who have been unemployed for at least 60 days. It also extends the federal highway construction program and takes other steps to boost public building projects.

After the vote Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York praised the Republicans who voted for the bill, calling it “a legislative dream.”

“Today is really a turning point,” said Mr. Schumer. “And there are two words that symbolize it – jobs and bipartisan. The American people sent us a message in Massachusetts and elsewhere. It was focus on jobs, the economy, helping the middle class stretch its paycheck. Our answer today: We heard you.”

I think it's time for many republicans to start thinking very hard about all these "NO" votes with the elections coming up. If you are a republican who is going to vote NO on everything, and you have a lot of unemployed people in your state, it isn't going to be very wise to vote NO on a bill that could put many of them back to work! Now some republicans don't seem to worry about the poor, the unemployed, or anyone but themselves, and that could come back to bite them in the butt come November! Sure they are pleasing the teabagger morons, but those people aren't going to be enough votes to carry them, so if they don't start doing something for the good of the people in their home states, well maybe their plan will backfire on them. I also thing the teabagger bunch are going to run their own candidates in November because they don't like "anyone" in congress these days, and they want their own loon's on the ticket, that too will hurt republicans. I thin the right has created a monster with the teabaggers, and that monster is going to get a mind of it's own, not what they had in mind when they created it! :evilgrin:

10. They ought to extend the tax exemption to employees as well.

If a person is hired April 1 that is 9 months of untaxed earnings, which would help both those who have been unemployed for that long and the economy. The people could use the extra to pay down debt, put a bigger down payment on a car, invest, etc.

An employee could simply quit and get another job to benefit. It would also mess up their contribution to Social Security.

An employer has to actually hire someone and create a job to benefit.

In my state of NC our Dem senator Hagen voted yea. AND the wretched doofus Burr also voted yea!!! It's like NC is trying to become blue.... and Burr knows it. I hope we do go all blue!
