S. Korea Won't Send Troops to Iraqi City

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- South Korea has canceled plans to send troops to the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk, citing U.S. pressure to participate in "offensive operations" that are contrary to Seoul's mission of peaceful reconstruction, the Defense Ministry said Friday.

The ministry said that it was looking for a new location to send the 3,600 troops it has promised to dispatch to Iraq to aid in rebuilding the country.

"South Korea and the United States share the understanding that it was inevitable to change the location of our troop dispatch because the security in Kirkuk, our original candidate area, has worsened," the ministry said in a statement.

First liar doesn't stand a chance.

The Koreans know war. So they want to be part of peaceful reconstruction. UN, anyone?

2. I thought they were going to Iraq to help the USA with the occupation?
Sounds like these guys want some US soldiers to protect them or something? If they are wondering where they should go, my suggestion would be for them to go home. They aren't helping anything over there when they don't want to get near any shooting going on. Killing Iraqis appears to be job 1 for our guys.

5. Completely contrary to S Korea's stated intentions
How can they have "peaceful reconstruction" without bombing the living shit out of something, or someone, first?
