Donald Trump Seeks to Trademark 'You're Fired!'
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 10:20 PM by villager
I, on the other hand, am seeking to trademark "Excuse me?," "Hi, there" and "How are you doing?" Why should language be squandered in the "public domain?"

U.S. Mogul Trump Seeks to Trademark 'You're Fired!'

By Andy Sullivan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. fast food firm Wendy's asked diners "Where's the beef?," and Nike commanded sports nuts to "Just do it." Now Donald Trump is seeking to trademark another pithy phrase: "You're fired!"

The real-estate mogul and reality TV star has filed a trademark application for the phrase, according to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Web site.

Known for his gaudy casinos and unusual mane of copper hair, Trump dismisses underlings on the hit TV show "The Apprentice" with a curt "You're fired."

Trump said he intended to emblazon "You're Fired" on games and casino services, and "You're Fired! Donald J. Trump" on clothing.

Other tyrannical bosses won't have to alter their vocabulary if the application wins approval, a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office official said, as it will only protect those specific uses.

7. Oh-Oh!
" The patent office granted 185,000 trademark applications in the last fiscal year. Applications take about a year to process.

Trump will be playing in Bush's backyard... Soooooo...

I smell the words "hefty" donation coming, if he expects approval of his application!

11. Trump political donations...surprisingly balanced
No question the guy is a first-class hump, but he does seem to spread the cash around evenly (if not more in our favor):

15. He's a putz...
and a megalomaniac.

"Good" businessmen create and add value, lazy businessmen latch onto owning things they had no hand in creating. Some might quibble that both constitute a "good" businessman, ie see opportunity and cash in.

I believe that details how debased the concept of business as become. With that definition Steve Jobs is equal to a millionaire crack dealer....

I'll go drink my Trump Ice now. Ingenious, bottled water!

If he trademarks 'You're Fired!' employers won't be so quick to fire people. They will fear Donald's retribution!!!!!! ;)

21. This is as ridiculous as...
McDonald's trademarking "Nothin' but net" and Lisa Beamer trying to do the same (don't know if she was successful) with "Let's roll". I positively do not understand why anyone is allowed to trademark well known expressions.

24. "Here's Johnny"...
Johnny Carson sued some company that was making a toilet/toilet-seat and crowning it "here's Johnny" saying it was his trademark and they had no right to use the term to sell toilets. :hurts: I believe Johnny won that one.
