http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/2456283Ex-Enron CEO Jeff Skilling will not be able to get at any of his $66 million in frozen assets any time soon.
Today U.S. District Judge Sim Lake denied Skilling's request that a government freeze on about $55 million in liquid assets be lifted. The government also froze his River Oaks home and a Dallas condo.
Siding with Enron Task Force prosecutors, the judge agreed that the government may legally freeze items in this case that might later be forfeited as proceeds of crimes.
"At this juncture, the court remains persuaded that continued restraint of Skilling's assets is warranted ...," the judge wrote in a 21-page opinion after receiving legally sophisticated briefs from both Skilling's legal team and the prosecutors.
