Arbitrator Rules That American Axle Violated Its UAW Contract By Sending Work To Mexico

UAW workers who lost their jobs at American Axle when the company closed it’s Detroit area plant to move production to Mexico must be made whole. That’s the decision from arbitrator Paul Glendon. He found American Axle violated the terms of it’s 2008 National Agreement with the UAW when it moved it’s axle production to Mexico. UAW President Ron Gettelfinger says this is a major victory for the workers. The arbitrator says the exact number of workers who lost jobs must be determined as well as how much these workers are due in wages and benefits. The arbitrator will oversee and resolve any disputes between the company and the UAW over how the workers are made whole.

There is a data base of each arbitrators decisions. Five names are randomly submitted to both sides of a case. They can only reject three. The AFL-CIO maintains a data base of decisions. Most union members only have to make a simple request for access to it.
