Iraqi children's growth stunted by war, says study

Iraqi children born in the most violent areas are shorter than those born in other parts of the country, UK researchers have found.

The team looked at data from Iraq's central statistics office and said under-fives from these areas were on average 0.8cm (0.3in) shorter.

Low height can be linked to poor diet and sanitation.

The University of London work is being presented at the Royal Economic Society annual conference.

The study analysed the height of children during the the first three years of the war and found that "stunting" was a serious problem among those born in provinces in the south and centre of Iraq which experienced the worst violence.

The butterfly effect. When we as humans understand so little about consequences, shouldn't we be all the more careful?

Nothing we do seem to end simple.

We develop antibiotics - Superbugs come into existence.

We try to improve our quality of life - Environment gets fucked.

Try to eliminate terrorists - Only end up creating more recruits.

Try to bet on market trends and make money - Create a global recession with far reaching devastation.

7. How can a child grow normally with filthy drinking water, little

place to exercise, lack of food, lack of sleep from never-ending fear?? Creating fear and hate from a whole generation who did nothing is inexcusable. I've seen pictures of children drawing water into little containers where dead bodies and filth are only feet away. This is a crime against humanity. If these were North American children it would be a sin, I'm sure even atheists and agnostics could find a word for it.
