Feds: Christian militia plotted police attack in hopes of inciting anti-government uprising
Source: Chicago Trib/AP

WHEATLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Members of a rural Michigan-based Christian militia who believed a battle with the Antichrist was coming were plotting to attack police officers in hopes of fomenting a violent uprising against the government, federal prosecutors alleged.

Seven men and one woman believed to be part of the group called Hutaree were arrested over the weekend after raids in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. A ninth suspect was arrested Monday night after a search in southern Michigan and was expected to be arraigned Tuesday.

FBI agents moved quickly against Hutaree because its members were planning an attack sometime in April, prosecutors said. Members had been undergoing paramilitary training, including learning how to shoot guns and make bombs, since 2008, according to an indictment. Authorities seized guns in the raids but would not say whether they found explosives.

Prosecutors said the suspected Hutaree ringleader, 44-year-old David Brian Stone of Clayton, identified law enforcement officers as potential targets. He and other members discussed setting off bombs at a police funeral, using a fake 911 call to lure an officer to his death, killing an officer after a traffic stop or attacking the family of an officer, according to the indictment.

The indictment said that after the attacks, the group planned to retreat to "rally points" protected by trip-wired explosives for a violent standoff with law enforcement personnel.

I know it's pointless to try to attribute any sense or thought process to these fools, but I still have to ask: what does killing a random police officer, or killing his/her family, have to do with the antichrist? Am I missing a connection here?

(edited for spelling)

4. it's just a matter of time before one of these groups succeeds in
doing harm to some of our citizens or gov't workers to try and spark something.

We are living in dangerous times and I don't take any of these nuts lightly. These are well armed idiots with nothing to lose.

6. It's already happened
Officers killed in PA because the jackass ws afraid of the mythical "gun grab"

Not to mention a certain plane flown into an IRS building.

Though you are correct, neither of these incidents involved more than one person. When they gather in groups of two or more, they become not only more brazen but more stupid too. :(

18. I ran across this scary website googling Hutaree

I read through some of their posts and these guys sound like teabaggers on crack. Click on their 'Militia Contacts' - THEY'RE ALL OVER THE US ... :scared:

Here's a post ...

"It is my hope that the rest of us can learn from their example.
Training is just folks doing what they need to enhance their skills on specific Tasks. When two guys get together and practice close quarters without any weapons that is called PT. When we get together and practice stealth that is a nature walk if we leave the packs, guns, and maps home.
If we practice rear take downs followed by death blows that is called "Conspiracy to commit murder or bodily harm".
Te Nims is great to practice the skills we need without a "conspiracy" charge in case we have a sleeper in our midst.
Every leader should review their training schedules, to include the "titles" to ensure they are not building a case for the Feds.
Take a few minutes and read the charge sheets and try to visualize where they did that or could have done that.
My only question is exactly how the Hutari were going to expect to live if they had no safe houses or backup assembly areas.
I feel sorry for their families who will have to go through this for want of a bit of thinking."

and according to this post Hutaree was a member there ....

"Someone mentioned a few pages back in this rapidly growing thread that a poster from this site, "Azuurlin" I believe, was Hutaree? If so, does anyone know of his status or well being? I have not seen a post from the Hutaree side, just the one from the MM member. I would like to get the other side of this story as well.

15. Does these guys seem like the goobers of the Militia

movement to anyone else? Assuming they were, in fact, actually planning the the heinous attack described, it's all right and proper they were busted, but that sad little website ... the rusty old trailer ... that goofy name? Were these really the most dangerous RW militants around, or were they just the easiest to catch sending stupid e-mails to each other?

The lynch-mob hysteria on the part of supposed Progressives is beginning to depress me. So far, all we've seen or heard are accusations.

26. Frankly, no
They seem more like the clowns in south Florida who were arrested in 2006 for an alleged terror plot.
