Azzaman (Iraq Daily)Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has warned Iraqi army commanders to stay away from politics.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions over the results of the latest general elections in which Maliki lost to his rival Ayad Allawi.
There have been reports that the U.S. might eventually support a military coup if the politicians fail to mend fences and form a national unity government.
“The meddling of the military in political affairs is wrong and constitutes a dangerous prelude which no one can settle but the judiciary,” Maliki said.
