Kansas City Dot ComA bomb scare closed the U.S. District Courthouse in downtown Kansas City this morning, sending at least some employees home for the day.
At midmorning, a Kansas City police spokesman said the department was asked at about 8:45 a.m. to investigate a soft-sided cooler left near a garage door on the building’s east side. It had a note attached saying the contents of the cooler would explode, police said. The police bomb robot was expected to evaluate the package before police determine what to do.
Don Ledford, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s office, said workers in the building were instructed to evacuate and go home about 9:30 a.m.
Fire trucks, emergency vehicles and motorcycles officers blocked Oak Street and parked on other blocks to the north and east of the courthouse.
