Michelle Obama: Haiti's global support

First Lady Michelle Obama, making her first solo international trip as first lady today to Mexico City, made a surprise stop along the way in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

Obama and Jill Biden arrived this morning in Port au Prince, where more than a million people are homeless, many living underneath tents and tarps.

The visit follows the three-month anniversary of the Jan. 12 earthquake, a 7.0-magnitude temblor that tore through the capital and four smaller southern cities.

The Obama administration released this statement about the visit by the spouses of the president and Vice President Joe Biden, which was kept secret until the landing:

"First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden are visiting Haiti to underscore to the Haitian people and the Haitian government the enduring U.S. commitment to help Haiti recover and rebuild, especially as we enter the rainy and hurricane seasons, and to thank the women and men across the whole of the U.S. government for their extraordinary efforts in Haiti during the past three months.

" They will also reach out to the U.N. and international relief communities in recognition of the truly global effort underway to help Haiti."

2. This is the perfect time for her to go IMO
People are forgetting about Haiti now and there minds are elseway.

She and Mrs. Biden can shine more light on the current conditions.

6. I've been hearing a bit about Sean Penn down there
I'm glad two new faces are going now. A bad season is upon them and speedy recovery is a plus.

5. The Obamas surely love surprises
A few weeks back the President surprised our troops in Afghanistan by visiting them there. And the First Lady does the same for earthquake victims in Haiti! That's so nice of them!
