Senators Invited to White House for Supreme Court Talks

President Obama has invited top Democratic and Republican senators to the White House next Wednesday to consult on his next pick for the Supreme Court – a move that means, in effect, there will be no announcement of a candidate for at least the next eight days.

Mr. Obama has invited Senators Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell, the Democratic and Republican leaders of the Senate, and Senators Patrick L. Leahy and Jeff Sessions, the Democratic chairman and senior Republican on the Judiciary Committee, to talk about the vacancy that will be created when Justice John Paul Stevens retires at the end of this term.

The White House said Friday that Mr. Obama expected to announce his choice for a replacement within the next several weeks.

1. I wonder who the "top" Dem and Rep senators are... I'd like to nominate

Jonathan Turley and would pass that along to my Senators (who don't always listen).

ETA - It was good of Obama to invite the Reps, but I'm pretty sure it'll be a repeat of what happened during the 'bi-partisan' health care discussions. Except Boehner doesn't have a 1000+ page document to lug around as a prop.

Hatch and Kyl are on national TV claiming that Democrats filibustered Alito, but that's a lie. Sadly, not a single interviwer has called anyone on that lie.

Last time I found when I googled was Abe Fortas--and that was not to get on the SCOTUS. He already was on the SCCOTUS. It was only to go from Associate Justice to Chief Justice--and it looked as though he had been on the take.
