AutoweekNissan will begin taking buyer reservations for the Leaf electric car on Tuesday, April 20, and is giving priority to people who have signed up for info about the car at its Web site. Nissan says that more than 115,000 people have signed up for Leaf info. On Tuesday afternoon, Nissan will send out e-mails with reservation instructions to potential buyers. The e-mails include a link to start the reservation process. Nissan will ask for a refundable $99 deposit with each reservation, and there is a limit of one reservation per family.
People completing a reservation get a confirmation number. Nissan says it will have updates on individual orders by June 30. Deliveries of the Leaf are set to begin in December.
The Leaf will have a suggested retail price of $32,780. Nissan points out that there is a $7,500 federal tax credit that will lower the net value to $25,280 and that several states offer additional incentives. Potential buyers can still get priority if they register at www.NissanUSA.com by the end of the day on Monday.
