Senate Republican may switch vote and back debate on bill

Washington (CNN) – After Senate Democrats' second consecutive failed attempt Tuesday to take up a financial regulatory reform bill, a moderate Republican from Ohio indicated for the first time that he is planning to switch his vote and support opening debate on the bill if a deal isn't reached soon between the top negotiators for each party.

The American people "want us to get something done," Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, said in explaining why he would eventually join Democrats in insisting that the bill be debated on the floor.

Voinovich, who is not seeking re-election in November, would not say exactly how long he would wait before switching his vote but said, "I have an idea of how much time it takes to cut a deal." He also said he expects "a whole bunch" of other Republicans to make the same decision.

10. It started out watered out Dems claim that was because of

Republicans. (Color me puzzled/skeptical on that one.) An example is putting the so-called consumer protection agency under the Fed.

And then it got watered down more. An example is removing the provision about breaking up organizations that are already "too big to fail," which deletions supposedly were made as a result of requests from the White House. You know, the same White House that killed the drug re-importation bill in a minute and a half, but supposedly has no ability whatever to influence Congress.

So, even if it doesn't get watered down further, real Dems will have to hold their noses to vote for it, same as with the so-called "health care" "reform" bill, which got no Republican votes at all and in fact had to be done via reconciliation.

Frankly, I'd rather see Democrats write Democratic bills and make Republicans vote against those, than watch Democrats write Republican bills, then claim the Republicans made them do it. Not only is the latter getting old, it's getting less and less believable each time.

17. I called him yesterday,maybe I will do a follow up today

I left a message for Voinovich, told him I can understand a Representative voting against a bill he does not feel is in the best interest of the country but then said I was mad at Rep. all voting no to even debate the bill it showed either
1. they don't think there is a need for reform, out of touch if they think that
2. Republicans have no ideas for reform so don't want debate to show that
3. Rep. all in Wall Streets pocket
4. Just want to stall and hold up anything getting done, playing politics, Rep really are the party of obstructionism and "NO"

Then said people did not elect representative to stall and play politics, time to get on with doing the job people elected him for, and fix the problems of this country. Said you got us in this mess you had better be working to get it fixed or I will never vote for a Republican again and will work against them all. (like I ever did!) I hope he got many calls from irate Ohioians!

I sent him an email, and at the beginning said he wouldn't be getting my vote if he blocked the bill. Completely forgot he wasn't running for re-election. That's why sleep is good, lol.
