1. This will backfire.
It will remind people that two or three corporations own everything in the world. The Bush WH doesn't want that information to get out.

It would not be wise (for the chimp's handlers) to piss off the press durring the campaign.

28. Yeah
Someone on another board I'm on used quotes from Drudge to back up her argument that Clarke was only on there to sell his book and make money for CBS. Again... who would be an acceptable dissenter from this admin?!?

41. Legitimate dissent is an oxymoron.
All who say otherwise will be required to report for ideological reprogramming.

Huh?
(Clarke's) allegations are also made in a book, "Against All Enemies," which is being published Monday by Free Press, a subsidiary of Simon & Schuster. Both CBSNews.com and Simon & Schuster are units of Viacom.

From the CBS Sixty Minutes page, but I thought I heard this statement on the show, too.

32. Another example for Drudge to post...
Midge Decter wrote a glowing "personal biography" of Rumsfeld.
She's a right-wing PNACer.
Her book was published by Regan books.
Regan is owned by Harper Collins.
Harper Collins is owned by Fox (Murdoch).

So if Decter appears on Fox to push her book, will Fox reveal the business connection?

Many right-wing books are published by Fox/Haper Collins.
If the right-wingers want to persue this idiotic line of reasoning, we'll have plenty to fire back with.

Then tell them who owns and runs Fox, The NY Post, The Washington Times, etc

14. Yeah. To me, the implication is that, but for the corporate connection,
they would have totally ignored the book.

CBS cares more about Michael Moore-level profits on books than on actually getting Bush out of the White House.

And you can bet they'll be trying their damndest to repair whatever damaget this causes Bush in the run up to Novemeber (if 2000 is any indication of where their loyalties (to profit) lead them).

24. According to Amazon.com
This is published by Free Press, which is a subsidiary of Simon & Schuster which is own by Viacom, which also own CBS.

Now does anybody want to explain why there wasn't an outcry in the 1980's with NBC -- owned by the largest manufacuturer of nuclear reactors -- aired an NBC "White Paper" extolling the virtuation of atomic energy?

16. And this discredits the information in the book how?
If they can't argue against the man or his claims, they argue against the 60 Minutes show?

What pathetic babies.

Bottom line: Bush and his crew were dangerously out of step with the events of the contemporary world, and thus laid us open for the 9/11 attacks. They were incompetent, and everybody fucking knows it but the crybabies and swirly-eyed lunatics on the right wing.

27. Whhhhaaaaa?
Did 60 minutes say antyhing about this?

If not, who cares? When local newscasts are telling me the latest on American Idol or Survivor. Or when people with debuting sitcoms happen to show up on network news shows or sporting events.

I didn't see the special but did they say anything about this? Would have made me feel a little better but this is still par for the course for major media.

29. So what? It shows CBS is pretty damned brave.
Golly, CBS also published "House of Bush, House of Saud." That's TWO more truthful books than Murdoch, Drudge, Hannity, Limbaugh, Novak, Will, Coulter and the rest of the swillmasters have between them.

30. Give CBS a round of applause!
The real question is: why isn't this on the front page of the Los Angeles Times this morning instead of in the middle of section A?

The next question is: why are the twits on CNN treating this like a "he said/she said" spat between a disgruntled former employee and his former boss instead of the latest smoking gun?

Last night there was a thread about who has left the administration and whether they are speaking out against it. There were about 20 people, all professionals with years of experience and great credentials, and most of them saying some pretty damning things. They include four ambassadors/diplomats, several generals, FBI agents, CIA agents -- for God's sake, what will it take for our alleged news media to start the drumbeat? What will it take?

I wonder what the Murdoch contributions to the Heritage Foundation and the AEI are. Do you think he would fund right-wing think tanks and then repeatedly have them on as "guests?"
