France: Recent Bin Laden Location Found
PARIS (Reuters) - International forces recently found a location where fugitive al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden is thought to have taken refuge, according to French Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie.

She said in an interview to be published Tuesday that French troops operating near Afghanistan's border with Pakistan had helped trace bin Laden but did not say where, how wide an area she was referring to or whether he was still there

A ministry spokesman said Alliot-Marie was referring to the discovery of a location where bin Laden was believed to have been "at a certain time" and it was not clear where he was now.

"Our men are well established and know the terrain well. Thanks to certain information, they were recently able to make an effective contribution to locating him," Alliot-Marie told Express magazine in an interview released before publication.

Asked whether the man located was definitely bin Laden, she replied: "Everything leads us to think so."

edited to add:

The French would refuse to extradite bin Laden to the U.S. They don't like our death penalty. In fact, they hate our whole justice system.

They would sit on him for years while Americans clamored to bring him to justice. The embarrassment for the Bushies would go on and on and on....

If the French catch him, Freepers will self-destruct from cognitive-dissonance induced cranial explosions :).

It'll be like the 4th of July :).

12. It would be bad for France
If the French catch him, they will stick him in jail, and then absorb year after year of terrorist attacks demanding his release. There is no good way out of this mess. I hope Bin Laden has a bomb drop on his head, or better yet, I hope he is beaten to death by some Afghani warlord bent on revenge. That would be the best ending for him.

14. But if the French caught him....and kept him, Bush would spin that
into intense hatred of "foreigners"--"Old Europe"--etc. etc. for consumption by the yahoos in this country.
Then they's drag out the "Kerry is French" routine....

No, we don't want the French holding him,,,,NO NO NO

17. OBL won't be taken alive, unlike Saddam
I recall a news story last year - maybe it was in Newsweek? - where an Afghan who had met with Bin Laden said that he was surrounded by guards under orders to kill him if his capture became imminent. I think it also said that OBL wears an explosive belt to blow himself up. Bin Laden knows that capture would be a dishonor that would wreck his image but going down fighting against the "Crusaders" would make him an inspirational martyr for generations, at least in some quarters. Remember how the "Arab street" derided Saddam for failing to put up any fight when he was captured?
