Senate puts off vote on gay marriage ban
Associated Press

March 22, 2004

As thousands of Minnesotans converged on the Capitol grounds Monday to press for a gay marriage ban, an attempt to make the state Senate vote on a proposed constitutional amendment accomplishing that goal failed.

The DFL-controlled Senate voted along party lines - 35-31 - against pulling the bill out of a committee and putting the measure to an immediate floor vote. The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hear the bill on Friday.

If approved by the House and Senate, the bill would put a question on this November's ballot allowing Minnesotans to amend their state constitution to ban same-sex marriages.

1. Thank gawd...
considering all of the sneaky legislature that Pawlenty and his thugs get away with, I am glad that this one will be set aside for awhile. Whew!

2. I'm not optomistic its done yet
they can still consider it Friday. The way I read it this just delayed an immediate floor vote. The House will vote onit tomorrow I think. This really sucks - this session is supposed to be a bonding session, not policy. Freaking (*^%* Republicans.

3. At least there is time to call our reps about this.
I swear, I don't even recognize Minnesota anymore.

5. They had better kill it in committee.
Let it die there and never see the light of day. That is how to deal with these things when possible. It's important to keep wobbly Democrats off judiciary and constitutional committees.
