Fla.'s Jeb Bush: Haiti needs our help
WASHINGTON, March 23 (UPI) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush made an impassioned plea for U.S. assistance and continued engagement in Haiti in a Tuesday Washington Post op-ed article.

Bush said current U.S. policy toward Haiti "is aligned with the democratic belief that no individual is above the law, and creates the hope that integrity, honesty and rule of law can and will exist in Haiti's future government."

More than 300,000 Florida residents, according to the latest figures, have emigrated from Haiti to the United States.

Bush, in the article, called for renewed focus on the development of Haiti's democratic and economic infrastructures. "There must," he wrote, "be a focus on developing the democratic functions required to create a successful civil society."

The governor also praised legislation authored by U.S. Rep. E. Clay Shaw, R-Fla. -- The Haiti Economic Recovery Opportunity Act of 2003. Bush said that legislation would "create the cycle of investment and job growth that will be vital to (Haiti's) future."

2. Great - about time we restored democracy.
Glad he's for returning the rightful, elected leader - Aristide - to power.

What?

You mean that's not what he meant?

Just where the hell was he before the bushco coup?

Nevermind. We already know the answers.

Just sickening, isn't it?

What I wonder is, do they laugh as long as I did when they write that part of the statement?

5. I hope Jeb Bush ends like Sheik Ahmed Yassin
"Jeb Bush sealed his popularity with the Cuban exile community by acting as campaign manager for another prominent Cuban-American, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, when she ran successfully for Congress.

George Bush Sr famously appeared with her during her campaign in Miami declaring: "I am certain in my heart I will be the first American president to step foot on the soil of a free and independent Cuba."

She has since lobbied successfully for the release of several exiles convicted of terrorist offences held in US jails but who now live freely in Miami.

Most controversially, at the request of Jeb, Mr Bush Sr intervened to release the convicted Cuban terrorist Orlando Bosch from prison and then granted him US residency.

According to the justice department in George Bush Sr's administration, Bosch had participated in more than 30 terrorist acts. He was convicted of firing a rocket into a Polish ship which was on passage to Cuba. He was also implicated in the 1976 blowing-up of a Cubana plane flying to Havana from Venezuela in which all 73 civilians on board were killed."

I hope someday there will be a real war against terror.

Hello from Germany,
Dirk

"called for renewed focus on the development of Haiti's democratic and economic infrastructures" I'll bet Jeb is just drooling over this, that rat bastard only cares about making a buck! F**K you and the silver spoon you rode in on, this PIG makes me sick! I hate this piece of excrement more than his brother. He has ruined Florida, he is a big pouting little baby that throws tantrums and becomes visibly unnerved when anyone so much as hints at disagreement.

8. I might add, for those who do not know Jeb, like us Floridians....
Our worst nightmare is not W, it is Jeb. W is just a tool, a puppet who is just some dumb ass that is told when to shit! George is truly a dim light bulb. Jeb on the other hand is pure evil, he is cunning and conniving, he makes Rove look like an amateur. Jeb is the smart one, he truly is something to be feared if he makes it out of the state and onto the national stage.

21. I've been in Florida about 6 months...
and for the life of me, I still cannot understand why so many people seem to think Jeb -- his partner in crime, Katherine, can be included in this too -- walks on water. It's like these people enjoy being screwed over. But then I see the sorry shape Florida's schools are in curriculum-wise and it suddenly starts making sense.

But what you said is true. Although I would like to nominate Johnny Byrd as Florida's second most evil bastard.

Haitians flee to U.S. in boats

Friday, February 27, 2004 Posted: 0117 GMT ( 9:17 AM HKT)

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- The U.S. Coast Guard said Thursday it has picked up more than 500 Haitians attempting to flee their troubled island home by sea and will send most of them back to Haiti, where a spreading rebellion has stoked fears of a new wave of refugees.

At least 524 Haitians will be taken Friday to the Haitian coast guard base on the island's coast, U.S. officials said. That includes 283 intercepted on one ship, 213 on another and a freighter with 17, intercepted off the coast of Florida.

Another small vessel was being intercepted Thursday night with just a few people aboard, the officials said.

Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush called the Haitians aboard the freighter "hijackers." The refugees are being held aboard the vessel off the Florida coast. The governor urged the federal government to send them back.

But the office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees issued a statement Thursday calling on all governments to receive refugees from Haiti and to respond humanely.

He looks like the soul of virtue, doesn't he? George Bush really knows how to pick'em. They are all connected by the same lack of respect for human beings.

Interesting biographical piece on Jeb will definitely reinforce what the posters above already wrote concerning Jeb's drive to "succeed":

15. Now that's gruesome.
Someone here posted the observation that cooperating with Bush on Haiti allows France to get back (they hope?) into the good graces of this government after hacking them off for doubting the legitimacy of the Iraq war.

Really makes you wonder what kind of psychopath can sit that close to someone like Chirac and also to pitch fits and make fun of him publically when he disappoints him. Slimey, two-faced pResident, I think.
