<snip>
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Two-and-a- half years after assuaging Muslim anger over US President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s use of the word "crusade" to describe anti-terror efforts, Secretary of State Colin Powell (news - web sites) slipped and allowed the term to re-enter the lexicon
<snip>
"We gave them 24, 48 hours to consider it and then I called President Musharraf and said: 'We need your answer now. We need you as part of this campaign, this crusade'," Powell recalled in testimony before a commission investigating the attacks.
<snip>

:wtf:
I can't believe they would let this slip going into an election year while trying to win Muslim votes

5. Votes, they don't need no stinking votes, the selection is in the
bag. They own Diebold, its simple, they keep the media putting out fixed poll numbers, ya its neck and neck all the way to election day. Then they make sure that George wins by enough votes so as not to trigger a recount (that is if one were possible with black box voting). Slam dunk, George gets to play king for another four. Then it will be his evil brothers turn! I am not kidding, this is how I believe it will all play out.

13. Interesting to remember he was courted...
...by elements in the Democratic Party who hoped he'd run for president.

The reason isn't any great mystery; he fit into the DLC view of things.

Maybe, just maybe he let that one loose intentionally.... After all these pricks want to look tough & (by now) we all know that they have a very active racist/ religious-nut constituency that resides in their political base.....

11. I had that same thought, maybe he
has decided to secretly work to undermine the chimp, maybe it is some secret, private attempt to redeem himself. Just a thought, but I was stunned when I heard him say that.

9. They just don't give a damn.
They know the Muslims can't really do anything about them except a few hits here and there. The military might of the US makes it unshakable, defiant, insensitive, unjust, arrogant, and unjust. But who can stop us? No one in sight. Until we implode from our own hubris...and we shall.

14. Powell is no statesman
He has refered to Western countries as the "civilized world" in comparison to Mid-East Arabic countries. These little 'slips' are indications of the mind set of Bush and buddies.

15. Powell is an embarrassment!
Dave Chappelle said he and Condolisa Rice should be officially expelled from the Black Race!

16. use of the word "crusade"
the "slip of the tongue" may be very telling

up until Powell used the word crusade yesterday it had disappeared from the speeches/interviews as a characterization -- but "crusade" has probably been used frequently in WH meetings -- and used enough where it became THE definitive "WORD"

when you are accustomed to using a particular word to describe something, it's quite common for it to slip out at inappropriate times
