Anti-tax figure adds heat to debate (Norquist)

While a conservative group held an emergency summit on the state's tax situation inside a Portland hotel, two dozen demonstrators protested tax breaks for the wealthy outside.

The conference, titled "De-Taxing Maine," was sponsored by the conservative Maine Heritage Policy Center, which wants to reduce state and local taxes in Maine. The summit included a keynote speech by Grover Norquist, a polarizing figure in the tax debate and president of Americans for Tax Reform.

"Taxation involves taking money from the people who earned it and giving it to people who didn't," Norquist said during a lunchtime speech to the conference's 150 attendees. " 'Fair' strikes me as the wrong word for it."

...a message opposed by the picketers outside Holiday Inn on the Bay.

"I would like to thank Grover Norquist, who has done such a wonderful job of advocating for tax cuts for the wealthy," said a top-hat wearing, cigar-smoking man who gave his name as Phil T. Rich.

Mainers gave Grover a "warm" welcome. I couldn't go but friends did. Good job, guys!

1. Now we know
why it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Good night grandma, hasn't the bozo ever heard of compassion? The fact that it was mere luck that made him rich? That you'd better be nice to people on your way up, because you might need them on the way down?

2. They stole the money , they should get to keep it...
What they always fail to realize is that, in the case of filthy rich Republicans, they almost always get that way by stealing and cheating. They rig the laws to benefit themselves by paying off politicians and judges. If necessary, they hire thugs to kill those who don't cooperate. So, whining about fairness hardly strikes a responsive chord with me.

3. Norquist is nothing but a looting moocher
Taxes are an attempt at billing for services rendered. Rich people get more out of the system, and should merely pay to keep the thing going. He's smug, greed, and exceedingly unfunny, if you happened to catch the INCREDIBLY unfunny "Washington Celebrity" contest on C-SPAN.

The greed and dishonesty of this man are breathtaking.

Taxes don't go to "people who didn't earn the money", they go to the government to keep the system going.

4. Grover is the alpha Tax Cut Monkey.
Tax Cut Monkeys gleefully assist in the financial rape of their own children and fling their own feces at anyone who suggests a fiscally and ethically responsible government. The Tax Cut Monkeys always argue that the reason the US has never had significant economic growth or an improving standard of living is that taxes are too high. Their argument is ignorant and greed based.

The US has prospered with tax rates substantially higher than now. Of course that was during a time when nearly all Americans loved their country and their children more than they loved their money. This is no longer true for many of the 50 million Bush voters.

Tax Cut Monkeys also like to masturbate while noshing Ronald Reagan's feces. But their patron saint of self gratification raised taxes six times while cutting taxes only four times. Much to the chagrin of the Tax Cut Monkeys, the economy did okay.

Tax Cut Monkeys need to stop assisting in the rape of their own children, stop flinging their own feces, and stop masturbating while eating republican fecal matter. They need to become responsible citizens.

5. Phil T. Rich! I love it
And I love a good cigar. I think I have found a new use for my old opera hat from my weeding. (I'm a hat guy, and couldn't imagine wearing one of those cheap felt concoctions, so sprung for a genuine German-made collapsible opera hat).
