Madrid bombmaker identified by police

Spanish police believe they have identified the chief bomb-maker responsible for the Madrid blasts, a Moroccan scientist known as "the Chemist".

Abderrahim Zbakn, a chemical science graduate from Tetuan University in Tangiers, is believed to have made the bombs in a Madrid flat.

The 32-year-old is a friend of Jamal Zougam, also from Tangiers, and the first of 14 suspects to be arrested.

Mr Zbakn was arrested last Thursday in Alcala de Henares, the dormitory town where the 14 bombs, packed inside sports bags, were loaded on to commuter trains during the morning rush hour on March 11.
