Ga. Sen. Zell Miller blasts Kerry at 'Democrats for Bush' rally
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Bush-Cheney campaign Wednesday unleashed its most famous Democratic booster, Georgia Sen. Zell Miller, to make the case that presidential candidate John Kerry advocates policies inconsistent with some of history's most popular Democratic presidents.

Miller, a Georgian who is the lone Democratic senator to back publicly President Bush's re-election bid, criticized Kerry in a speech announcing his leadership of a national "Democrats for Bush" effort. He was joined by a handful of lesser-known Democrats, but the campaign said it would release a more comprehensive list in the coming weeks.

103. Really?
There are a whole lot of African Americans in Georgia who would be surprised to hear it... considering the solid support they gave him for many years. He even won a fair percentage of African Americans in a Democratic primary race against a capable black opponent (Andrew Young was a Congressman AND ambassador to the U.N. and well known in the civil rights movement - and Miller STILL won a sizable portion of the "black vote").

No, he's not racist... just a turncoat.

106. Got any evidence for that?
Zell Miller has many failings, Lord knows, but racism does not seem to be one of them.

In case you have forgotten it, or never knew it to start with, he made an all out effort to remove the confederate flag from Georgia's state flag. He lost after a hard fight, and it was a very unpopular move that nearly ended his career.

But hey, who needs facts when one can just see things for one's self, right?

112. Wasn't it Governor /...
Wasn't it Gov. Fritz Hollings (D) of South Carolina who put the Confederate Flag on the capital building of that state some years back?

Such was the attitude of many Democrats in the South going way back to the Civil War. Judging a southern Democrat from a northern Democrat perspective will only create more infighting in our party.

111. I don't understand all the praise of Chaffee and Snowe.
They are good enough people, I suppose, certainly when compared to say, Jesse Helms, but by remaining in the Republican caucus and thus keeping the Senate in the hands of people like Frist and Santorum, they are as much a part of the problem as George W. Bush himself.

I would respect them a lot more if they would realize that the reasonable, responsible GOP that they grew up in died twenty years ago. By sticking around, they are just enabling Bush and his crew.

Not a real Democrat, hasn't been one in over 5 years, and should now be publicly bounced out of the party. I can think of 50 Republicans I prefer to that pile os shit. At least Phil Gramm, Jim Jeffords, Ben Nighthorse Campbell and Virgil Goode had the integrity to change parties and accept the consequences for doing so. Bush and Rove want him to keep the little (D) next to his name so they can claim that he is a "bipartisan" president. George Wallace was a better Democrat that this jerk.

17. In 2001, he was praising Kerry...
At the Georgia Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner in 2001, he introduced Kerry as “one of this nation’s authentic heroes, one of this party’s best-known and greatest leaders — and a good friend.”

In remarks reported in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Miller continued, “In his 16 years in the Senate, John Kerry has fought against government waste and worked hard to bring some accountability to Washington.” Miller said Kerry “fought for balanced budgets before it was considered politically correct for Democrats to do so.”

And at that point, the "sour grapes" effect will probably make it more trouble then it's worth.

If we dump him now there will be too many Democratic senators bumped from committees the NEED to be on to get re-elected.

39. I think good ole boy Zell
Needs a shakeup to be reminded he's a Democrat and not a Republican. At least most of us know he's a DINO--in more ways than one, but how much of that does the real world understand?

Did anyone else watch "Mr. Sterling" when it was on? A really great quote came out of that show that constantly reminds me of Miller. When Sterling's political party is announced as "Independent," the people who helped put him on the ballot were embarassed because they had assumed he was like his father and was a Democrat. When they found out differently, they were rather upset. However, Sterling made a brilliant comment, that unfortunately I have to paraphrase since I can't remember the actual quote. He said he was an independent, because the names of the parties weren't real anymore. He said that what party is he supposed to affiliate himself to, when a "Northern Republican is more liberal than a Southern Democrat." It makes sense, though, and perhaps the intent was to have people think of good old Zell when it was mentioned. Of course this also applies to a few other Southern Democrats as well, but Zell is our poster boy for a DINO.

99. Courage?
To be a liar even to himself about what party he is really affiliated with? No f**king way will I admire him for being a traitor. If he wants to support the chimp-in-chief, I suggest he become a republican, because NO Democrat wants to claim he's one of "us." If you support him, it's because you're a Repub yourself. And Repubs love to point out over and over and over again about Robert Byrd's faults--at least Byrd has had enough conscience to denounce what he did as a young man--there is no such moral fiber in Zell Miller's body even worth mentioning.

72. WAKE UP--Kerry, don't spend a dime nor an appearance down South
Really....for god's sake at most me might sway a few thousand people but it won't put a dent into these southern assholes and thus, swing an entire state. Put it all into those midwestern states. The South is a losing proposition not worthy of 10 cents from the warchest. And fucking Zell Miller wouldn't say what he says if he knew differently. That bastard is using the blacks and poor who are voting for Dems in Georgia to get into office and then the slime turns against these people. He knows God couldn't win on the Democratic ticket down there. Now all we have to do is wise up and not spend a dime on these assholes. And if the day comes that Dems ever take over the whole government, I would suggest they start by cutting the damn fat pork that is kept slithering down the line to the South. Let them eat cake.

Please don't play into stereotypes that the Republicans love to use against liberals.

Zell Miller should've switched parties three years ago.

Check out his voting record.

84. Yardwork,
I sympathize. While I'm from Massachusetts, we're always hearing the same kind of generic and general insults about being "Mass. liberals." It doesn't help anyone's cause to be made part of an all-encompassing slur. Many of my online friends on other boards are all sworn enemies of the reich-wing and are from the South: North Carolina, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee. Broad insults are often an emotional response to a frustrating problem, and while the real thought behind most people's responses is hardly as rabid, it's something that we need to try to keep in check. We won't always succeed, and we might have to apologize afterward, but remember we're only human, and manage to insert feet into mouth on a regular basis. :)

Kerry won't be anywhere near the south other than Florida. I've been here in Texas for years and I heartily agree with you. This is the dumbest bunch of pickup jockeys I've ever seen. And how they bitch about spending money on education. I had one local yokel try and explain to me how spending more on public education doesn't necessarily improve it and I pointed out to him that only a product of said public education, like himself, would believe spending LESS would improve it. And believe me, I hear it all the time.

92. absolutely heartbreaking....
but try a more commonly experienced scenario. We have a child who ends up on life-support in the hospital. The bills mount up, but these parents don't have the luxury of being personal friends with the President. Soon the insurance policy is dropped, and the family must now accumulate millions of dollars in debt just to keep their own flesh and blood alive.

The child will not recover, but he will live on braindead...and fed for years by tubes. His parents, now in debt, are on welfare and Medicaid. But money from these underfunded programs do not cover the backbreaking cost of this treatment, driving them even further into debt. They know their child is not happy, but that ending this nonstop pain for the child is a crime in America. And with Bush in power, healthcare shall never become a right for anyone.

Edited on Thu Mar-25-04 02:05 AM by flaminbats
All we ever get from them is the terrorists are going to get you, bin Laden wants Kerry as President, and we can't balance the budget or prevent future terrorist attacks!

Talk about being a loser...and the Repugs are still in power! At least the Democrats would do something to stop workers from going into debt because of healthcare expenses, at least we seek to help people before they end up in a ditch, at least Democrats have a plan to balance the budget, at least Democrats would fund national security...not borrow for it, and at least Democrats want us to solve our problems together rather than suffer individually..

98. Hey Derbigny6....
that's a very heartwarming story, seriously...and did you also read the email about the time George W. used his superhuman powers and flew really really fast and reversed the rotation of the Earth to prevent 9-11 from happening too? Then he went back even further and actually made smart business deals by himself using his brains and work ethics instead of using his daddy's contacts to get a whole bunch of sweetheart deals. Then he went back more and actually finished his National Guard service to his country instead of slithering out early. Then he went back even farther and instead of waiting until he was 47, he gave up drinking like a lush at age 22 like most normal people do after college. Then he went back more and used a rubber so he didn't get the 15-year old pregnant so she didn't need an abortion...etc etc..what a guy! Thank goodness we have you to point out the differences between the two major parties. See ya.

93. Bollocks. Check Snopes.
Here is the funeral home manager's statement:

The email that has been forwarded to a number of people and has unfortunately become the talk of everyone in Gatesville. The local media is calling us, along with many citizens in our community.

As with every family that we serve, all financial arrangements and conditions are held in strict confidence. However, with the overwhelming amount of conversation and questions in regard to this tragedy, the privacy of the Kettler family has been violated. I spoke with Shawn this morning and he asked me to try and put a stop to these rumors.

Since the day Gatesville Funeral Home opened and a family has experienced the death of a child, we have not burdened the family with any charges from the funeral home. The family may incur charges that are not ours, such as a cemetery lot, obituary notices, flowers, etc. This has always been our policy and has been an understanding between the family and us.

The funeral expenses that were incurred to the Kettler family were paid for by a close family member and not President Bush. For the sake of the family's privacy, I hope these facts will straighten this matter.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/funeral.asp

It is true that some of Bush's Secret Service participated in the attempted rescue, but Bush himself had nothing to do with it.

95. This is right wing bullshit.
It is another of those fake letters that seek to portray that dogturd from crawford as a real person. HE IS THE BIGGEST PIECE OF SHIT ON THE PLANET!!! No amount of these fake letters changes that.

Here, I'll write one too:

One day a Guy I know was walking down the road near Bush's place in Crawford. He wasn't bothering any body, just walking along the road.
All of a sudden, a Ford Bronco with blacked out windows peels onto the road from Bush's compound! My friend tries to get further off the road, but this big black car is coming right at him!
At the last second, the Bronco veers away, but the worst was yet to come.

The Bronco stops, and the back window slowly rolls down. There was a drunk President Bush, in a diaper, holding a shotgun out the window.

He shouts, " Run, so's I can make this more sportin'."

My friend stood frozen in fear.

"Didn't you hear me tell you to run, boy?" Bush raised the shotgun and said "I can give you a chance, or you can stand there when I shoot. I'm the president. I can get away with it."

Bush looked coldly at him. He knew that he was serious.
My friend tried to run across the street and to the side of the adjoining property. He sprinted and dodged along the road and was going across yards, but the Bronco seemed to always know where he was. About two miles from the start of this incident,as the Bronco followed, my friend had to leap to the side to narrowly avoid running over a man and his small boy. The car nearly crushed them, and as they jumped out of the way, the ground seemed to collapse from the weight to the giant vehicle. My friend looked back in horror as the small boy fell underground.
" I hope that man reports this." He thought, as he ran headlong into a small store, panting.

That George W Bush is the most evil man on the planet and will hunt you for sport if given the chance. I'm so glad that a sane man is running against him for President. Under Bush's leadership the world is likely to come to an end. Thank God for John Kerry.

( Unlike the writer of this bullshit letter in the post above, I will tell you that this is fiction, but you can believe it if you want to, since someone wrote it.)
