U.S. Temporarily Closes 4 Embassies Due to Threats

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States temporarily closed embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Mauritius on Wednesday due to threats and demonstrations against U.S. interests.

The closings -- two of which lasted an hour or less -- came one day after the State Department issued a worldwide caution to American citizens regarding the "heightened threat of terrorist attacks" following the killing on Monday of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin by Israel, a U.S. ally.
