Exxon's Valdez Fines Still Unpaid
Ten years ago, a jury ordered Exxon to pay what now amounts to $6.5 billion for damage to the fishing industry.

While many fishermen have been forced into bankruptcy in the years since, the worlds most profitable company still hasn't paid a penny keeping the case tied up in appeals.

But other studies show evidence that many species, from seabirds to herring and otters are showing lingering effects from the oil.

"The ecosystem has not recovered, no matter what Exxon says," says Steiner.

1. A good time to write to Exxon & to your newspaper..
Not only is it the 15 year anniversary, but they are busy attacking Greenpeace activists for peaceful demonstrations.
World's 2nd biggest corporation in revenue.
World's biggest in profits, very profitable year.

2. I heard on CBS this morning an Exxon executive say...
That the oil that is still on the beaches in Prince William Sound is "probably a good thing." Meaning that it hasn't migrated else where. To think this company made more money last year than any other company on earth and they haven't paid one red cent to the people they harmed.

3. As they run out the clock, they know that the survivor's grandchildren
will settle for pennies on the dollar.

Typical immoral corporate response from an entity that can't die toward the more ephemeral life forms on the planet (us).

The worst part is, our environmental science teacher here is teaching the kids that they have really paid and learned their lesson.

They hear differently in my class, but let's face it, what does an economics teacher know about Exxon anyway?
