Report: Israel Wrong on Iraq Weapons
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040325/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_iraq&cid=540&ncid=1473

JERUSALEM - Parliamentary investigators have determined that Israel's intelligence services delivered an erroneous assessment of pre-war Iraq (news - web sites)'s weapons of mass destruction, an Israeli newspaper reported Thursday.

Prior to the American-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003, the Israeli services reported Iraq had large amounts of weapons of mass destruction, including chemical and biological agents.

Since ousting Saddam Hussein (news - web sites), the U.S.-led coalition's technical experts have failed to find any such weapons.

An investigative subcommittee was formed eight months ago to consider if Israeli intelligence agencies provided an accurate picture of Iraqi unconventional weapons capabilities on the eve of the Iraq war.

1. isn't that special
I think the word "intelligence" is overused for both the US and Israel when it comes to WMD's in Iraq.

9. Now now, don't be too hard on the boys - just cuz the boys
were listening to Ahmed Chalabi doesn't mean they ain't intelligent.

If the truth were known I think most of the intel about WMD came from Israel. Which the US would never admit.

2. Israel has their own agenda
They'd be perfectly happy if we wiped out all of the arabs for them. They'd do it themselves if they could get away with it.

5. Remember this "intelligence" from 60 Minutes?
Before the Iraq war, there was a 60 Minutes report on Israel's intelligence. I remember warehouses full of documents supposedly from Iraq detailing their WMDs, and interviews with top intelligence officers. I guess it was all bullshit, I had suspected it was at the least exaggerated.

How do you explain Israel's withdrawal from the Sinai - a region larger than Israel itself and containing oil to boot - as part of a peace treaty with Egypt (which has lasted). Not to mention withdrawing from southern Lebanon (admittedly dragging their tails), and plans to withdraw from Gaza. And they will certainly eventually withdraw from most of the West Bank once they elect a sane leadership again (and so too the Palestinians).

13. There were no more than 6,000 settlers in the Sinai,

it bore no major religious significance to Israel, and removing them still caused a major national trauma for Israel. There's almost 400,000 settlers in the OPT's.

The settlements aren't going anywhere.

14. My point was
to counter the previous poster's "Greater Israel" statement.

The great majority of the settlers are concentrated in small areas; what would happen is that these areas (comprising less than 10% of West Bank land) would be annexed to Israel, in exchange for an equal amount of land currently within Israel proper. Something like this was in the 2000 plan that Arafat rejected.

8. Too bad W only listens to the people
that tell him what he want's to hear. Israel was more than happy to comply, while even his own experts, Tenet and Clarke tried to tell him otherwise.
