Probe may force DeLay to step down
Probe may force DeLay to step
down

WASHINGTON, March 25 (UPI) -- House
Republican leader Tom DeLay of Texas is
reportedly discussing temporarily
stepping down from his post if he is
indicted.

A Texas grand jury is investigating him
for alleged campaign finance abuses.

Roll Call reported Thursday the
conservative majority leader has begun
quiet discussions with a handful of
colleagues about the possibility, which
would be required under Republican
conference rules.

12. Don't forget: threatening the Repub holdouts on..
the same Medicare vote. When the most conservative Repubs said they wouldn't vote for the bill if it cost more than 400bil, magically the # came in at 395bil! Then they learned it would cost much more. Even the Repubs gotta be pissed about that. And threatening the guy who came up with the figure if he told what it really cost? Oh, what about medical records from abortion patients but no medical records from El Stupido.

could have remained a congressman whilst in prison.

And remember, all Delay would be reisgning is his leadershipi role, not his seat.

10. I don't know what he's up for indictment on but
I got a call for republican fundraising once in his name and it was a complete lying scam. The woman called up and said she was calling on behalf of Tom Delay who was asking if I would represent NY small business on a committee reporting to Congress. She plays me a pre-recorded clip by Tom Delay. Now, granted I am a small business owner but I found it a little hard to believe that a left wing democrat owning a business with 16 employees would be hand picked by Tom Delay to represent NY for anything. I asked her how they got my name. She told me that I was recommended to them. So then I ask how many people are going to be representing NY on this committee? She tells me I would be THE New York representative. Okay, now I'm sure this is BS. What would be required of me, I ask. You would be invited to a dinner and meeting in NYC and Congressman Delay requests that you make a donation to the RNC to pay for the ad in the NY Times announcing your appointment to the committee. I ask for a number where I can call her back. She gives me a number... it is a number for a RNC fundraising arm. I still can't believe they would like this so blatantly. My associate (who is not an owner or a shareholder) got the same call a few weeks later.

I couldn't believe they were getting away with this shit.

14. I'll bet you were 'recommended' to them by the Yellow Pages.
I get that malarky about once a quarter, for years now. Delay now, Gingrich before. The first time it was a pink phone call slip on my desk saying Newt Gingrich's office called, with an 800 number. Since it was toll free, I knew it wasn't my brother-in-law. :)

They should just pitch it as membership in the Who's Who of Dumb Campaign Contributors.

Pretty soon they'll be calling from India.

21. My hubby got the same call
They called the house and I asked them where they got his name. I got the same BS about being recommended as a prominent member of the business community. When I asked her who would recommend a liberal Jew to Tom Delay, she hung up on me.

24. Photos and link to this probe (aka "rubber-banding a hemorrhoid)
More at: http://www.hemorrhoid.net/painless.htm

Rubber Banding
A special instrument fits a small rubber band over part of the hemorrhoid. A tight rubber band stops the blood flow into the pinched-off portion, which falls off in about a week. This technique is widely used for hemorrhoids protruding into the anal canal.

For patients with a lesser degree of prolapse, Rubber Band Ligation is currently the most widely used procedure in the United States for treatment of internal hemorrhoids. In this procedure, the hemorrhoidal tissue is pulled into a double sleeved cylinder to allow the placement of latex/rubber bands around the tissue. (fig. 1) Overtime, the tissue below the bands dies off and is eliminated during a bowel movement. (fig. 2)

Rubber band ligation can be performed in a doctor's office and requires little preparation. Often, however, there is the need for more than one procedure to resolve a patient's condition. Rubber band ligation is most effective when combined with a sclerotherapy injection for prolapse.

34. Today's Houston Chronicle: "Indictment threat on DeLay's mind."
"DeLay and an aide in a March 8 private meeting at the Omni Houston Hotel talked to Houston supporters about the possible need to pay for a legal defense in connection with the grand jury investigation, according to two people who attended the meeting.

"The meeting at the Omni was part of a regular event DeLay holds every three months for supporters called the 'Congressional Quarterly Luncheon.' The two people interviewed by the Chronicle spoke on condition of anonymity......

"DeLay talked briefly about a legal defense and then had an unidentified aide discuss the possible need for raising money for a legal defense fund. One of those interviewed quoted DeLay as saying, 'I fully anticipate being indicted.'"

Conflicting stories coming out of that meeting, but I'm glad to see the bugman's in trouble.
