Kerry Announces Corporate Tax Cut Plan
The headline could use a little work. He is also talking about closing other tax loopholes.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A27170-2004Mar26.html?nav=rss_politics/elections/2004

"Some may be surprised to hear a Democrat calling for lower corporate tax rates," Kerry told an audience at Wayne State University. "The fact is, I don't care about the old debates. I care about getting the job done and creating jobs here in the United States of America."

Kerry, speaking to Michigan voters who have seen unemployment spike during Bush's tenure, promised to create 10 million jobs in his first term. He said the first step would be eliminating rewards for companies that move overseas, calling it "the most sweeping tax law reform in forty years."

Kerry said he would challenge a reluctant Congress and special interests to carry out the changes in international corporate tax law. The presumptive Democratic nominee, in making his overture to the business community, overrode the objections of some advisers who opposed the corporate tax cut on political grounds.

2. Kerry has a real serious problem with the Heinz company having outsourced
American jobs and opened as many as 57 seperate companies in other countries. He is going to be tagged with this bit of hypocrisy even though he has absolutely nothing to do with the Heinz Company. It is owned by his wife but it is in the family so he must deal with it.

14. No, Teresa does not have control of Heinz Foods
She chairs a charitable foundation built much earlier on some Heinz Foods money. The foundation diversified it's holdings long ago.

Teresa Heinz is not a member of the Heinz family. She was married to John Heinz, and inheritated Sen. Heinz holdings. That's it. End of connection....

5. Well, i don't think he has a problem, really.
I see a difference between producing in a particular country for that country's needs or that region's needs and producing outside the USA for the USA's needs. My understanding is that Heinz produced outside the USA for another continent's needs. But I could be wrong. If it did something objectionable, he and Teresa just need to admit it, and say, this is something we have to focus on. I think we need to focus on rewarding (A) small business creation and (B) keeping jobs here. Not that we should prohibit overseas job creation because we need to positively interact with other countries, but we need to reward job creation here.

13. I see no problem either, now if a plant is closed here to open one
overseas; then there's a problem.

9. The Heinz company doesn't outsource.
The Heinz company is a global company. It has offices and plants around the world. The foreign plants do not service the US customers. That bottle of ketchup you buy in Missouri was not made in Pakistan. If you go to Pakistan, the bottle of ketchup you buy there probably was.

This is not outsourcing. Outsourcing involves a company moving assets offshore to service the US Economy.

Besides the previous argument that neither Kerry, nor his wife, are involved in the company, the charge against the Heinz corporation is untrue.

If we don't understand the difference between US Companies globalizing their products and outsourcing, we fall easy victim to the right-wing spin machine.

10. come on "57 seperate companies" get it? Heinz 57!
food does not equal tech or manufacturing jobs-multinational companies have been in other countries producing food for that particular country for a very long time-

Are Heinz pickles produced in China?
No
Is John Kerry heir to the Heinz fortune?
No.

Are you saying he owns his wife's assets?
