Haiti to block ex-govt from leaving
From correspondents in Port-Au-Prince
27mar04
HAITI will block dozens of ex-members of Jean-Bertrand Aristide's government from leaving the country, including his former prime minister, the newly installed justice minister said today.

Those barred from leaving include former prime minister Yvon Neptune and ex-police chief Jocelyne Pierre, Justice Minister Bernard Gousse said.

Gousse requested the move "as an insurance policy" to ensure the officials would be available for investigations into embezzlement and other crimes committed by "the previous regime", he said.

"This does not mean that they are guilty. It will be for the justice system to decide," Gousse said.

Among the 37 names of the list is former Central Bank head Venel Joseph and ex-chairman of the state-run telephone company, Alphonse Inevil, Gousse said.

1. Haiti to block ex-govt from leaving

Esperance today said that the man, Yvon Antoine, was detained on Monday but had not been formally charged.

He said Antoine also was being held on suspicion of involvement in March 7 attacks on an anti-Aristide protest in which seven people were killed, including a Spanish journalist.

Police did not return repeated calls seeking comment.

2. Question? Is this for real?
Workers at the Canapevert Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, carry the body of Spanish carrespondent Ricardo Ortega of Antena 3 of Spain after he was shot to death by ousted Haitian dictator Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who armed, trained and financed the terrorists to help him perpetuate the dictatorship of the proletariat.. (Reuters/Daniel Morel)

"after he was shot to death by ousted Haitian dictator Jean-Bertrand Aristide"

This is beyond stupid. Is this quoted correctly?

"...perpetuate the dictatorship of the proletariat."

What? He was elected.

Are you making these quotes up?

They do not exist in the article you linked.

I'm not sure how to clarify myself but I did edit it out. I'm sorry if that was not the correct thing to do. And the other words I do not wish to be associated with either. It was a terrible mistake.

I want to thank you for alerting me to my error
