Caribbean won't accept Haiti's new gov't

http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2004-03-26-caribbean-summit_x.htm

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (AP) — The 15-nation Caribbean Community refused recognition Friday for Haiti's new U.S.-backed government amid continuing concerns over the departure of ousted leader Jean-Bertrand Aristide, senior Caribbean officials said.

The move came a day after the leaders demanded that the U.N. General Assembly investigate Aristide's claims he was abducted at gunpoint by U.S. agents when he left Feb. 29 as rebels threatened to attack Haiti's capital.

"We can't determine this issue at this meeting," Trinidad Prime Minister Patrick Manning said as he left a summit meeting of Caribbean leaders. He added that discussions were "quite tense" and that a final determination would be put off until leaders discuss the issue again at a summit in July in Grenada.

He gave no further details, but other Caribbean leaders said their minds were made up that Haiti's new U.S.-backed government would not get official recognition from the Caribbean Community for now.

2. News reports I read
said Condi is fuming...She is so glad of executive privilege, so she won't be required to lie...Proud that these piss ant countries have to timidity to stand up for democracy..But will the UN be able to withstand US pressure from Buschco... Reports said Jamaican govt.had been under tremendous pressure to force Aristide back to Africa.
Wonder the US did not have Aristide assasinated. Why Bush has an afinity to Ton Ton Machote style governments, meanwhile killing democratic elements in Haiti. Buschko has lots to hide.
Maxine Waters will push for democratic values this side of the Carribbean.

5. thanks for those pics -- esp the ones showing military equip
was real interesting to see those pics of the "rebels" dressed up in those fatigues .... the uniforms, the shiny new helmet, and the assault rifles .... hmmmmm, where have we seen those before?

Do you have any more pics like this, or know where some more are? It'd be good to start a collection.

4. Good going Caricom
If BushCo didn't do anything wrong, why do they have a problem with an investigation being done to find the truth?

Why would they not WELCOME an investigation, esp in the U.S., to find the truth?

If they have nothing to hide, what's their problem? They have nothing to be concerned about.

we know the answer.

10. Uh oh, do I see some more invasions
in our future? We have to make these countries understand that they are under our dominion, and they have no right to violate our sacred will.

12. I really wish the UN
would stand up to Bush. I trust and respect Kofi Anan and realize he's in a delicate position, but the Bushbot's have so castrated the UN.

I certainly don't advocate one-world government, but we must find away to peacefully inhabit the planet. I believe that hope lies with the UN.

Not that I necessarily want to root against the country in which I live, but the world needs to stand up to Bush so that we can restore are forefather's vision for America.
