Food-stamp inquiries go to India-Ohio congresswoman wants feds to halt
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/04087/292285.stm

The Bush administration should bar states from letting workers in other countries answer phone inquiries about the federal food-stamp program, an Ohio congresswoman maintains.

Rep. Marcy Kaptur, the House's senior Democratic woman and the agriculture appropriations subcommittee vice chairman, said she asked Eric Bost, the Agriculture Department's undersecretary for food nutrition and consumers, to ban outsourcing such work overseas. But the department refused, she said in a House speech Thursday.

"Something is haywire when we allow multinational corporations to take our U.S. taxpayer dollars and give them, in the form of government contracts, to companies that then outsource the work to foreign workers and foreign countries," Kaptur said. "It is absolutely indefensible, when so many of our taxpayers cannot find jobs."

The Richmond (Va.) Times-Dispatch reported this week that 38 states now have contracts with J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. to handle inquiries about the federal food-stamp program, which is run by the Agriculture Department. J.P. Morgan has call centers in Bangalore and Pune, India, as well as a center for automated calls in Delaware.

3. scratches head - JP Morgan Chase the bank?
I had gotton Indian calls from them regarding credit cards
(you know, you're such a valued customer that for an extra $5 a month we won't screw up your credit when you loose your job)

So they are branching out to call centers where people can't hang up on them?

8. That is why I keep saying in the end it will be the economy, the lack of
jobs, and the outsourcing to foreign countries of any and all employment opportunities that will bring down the bush* administration.

The obscenity of the war in Iraq SHOULD be enough. But it won't be. What will finally make the feces hit the fan is unemployment, personal bankruptcies, home foreclosures, and all the other crap that goes along with mass unemployment.

The other big headache the clowns at 1600 will have to deal with is the Medicare fiasco as more people start to wake up and see what kind of a deal we handed to the pharmaceutical companies as well as the proposed 'restructuring' of Social Security.

6. Outsource the entire
government to India - then we'd only have to war with Pakistan.

10. So nice that India is enjoying a boom on the backs of Americans
I spend as little as possible and what I spend is mainly to small businesses because I don't want to help the Greed Pigs steal more from me.
