Whitman campaign spending hits $99.7 million

$531,378.

That's the amount of money Meg Whitman spent per day on her gubernatorial campaign from May 23 to June 30.

Just to put that in some perspective: Democrat Jerry Brown has spend a little more than $377,000 total since Jan. 1. Though to be fair, labor groups did spend about $4 million on Brown's behalf from the end of May through June.

Whitman has now spent $99.7 million on her race since she first formed an exploratory committee in 2009. Since January, Whitman has spent more that $80 million on her campaign. All told, Whitman has spent $91 million of her own money on the race thus far.

Post-Citizens United, the cool thing is for Republican billionaires and millionaire elitists to lead populist movements while accusing their less well off Democratic challengers of being elitists. Yes, up is down!

4. Unless your a minority owned business or media, then you're shit out of luck
Whitman's has reportedly spent a record $50 million dollars on TV, radio and print ads with the promise of spending just as much, or more between now and the November election. African American owned media outlet throughout the state say that the Whitman campaign has not spent a dime on radio or print ads with the Black owned media.

African Americans newspaper publishers and radio station managers say Whitman's decision to skip Saturday's forum reflects a pattern of Republican candidates ignoring or bypassing African Americans and refusing to do interviews with, or to buy political advertising with African American owned newspapers and radio stations.

5. Trickle Down Economics Live! Cut Taxes For Rich People...
...so they spend their money and us less fortunate folks can provide services to them! In Whitman's case, its providing her with campaign services so that she can pursue her hobby of the moment.

11. Waste
I just don't understand why anyone would spend their own money for the job of being governor of any state.

8. Wow, she may end up spending more than any presidential candidate
before 2004 or possibly 2000. And still lose!

I didn't realize she was throwing this much money into the race.

9. I hope she has to sell her Faberge Eggs and Beanie Babies on eBay to stay in the race
Of course, she can afford to lose $91 million, so in addition to not crying for Argentina, I won't cry for Meg either.

17. oh goodness yes - with the major budget collapse, the suffering in many homes with little extra
income for anything beyond food & necessities (if you're fortunate), and this corporate scum spends over $100,000,000.00 on a governor campaign!!!!!? Really?! Goodness, what a sick sick sick action.

Anything for power, Meg?

16. That looks bad during a recession, but hey she's rich anyway.
Wonder how many swing/indie voters she'll lose for every dollar spent on getting a seat she does NOT deserve.
